A GROWING south Warwickshire village is celebrating an historic milestone.
Upper Lighthorne now has a town council after transitioning from a parish council.
The new designation acknowledges the villages expanding population and it is set to provide a platform for Upper Lighthorne to shape its future with greater influence across the district.
At the inaugural meeting of the town council, Ben Robinson was formally appointed as the first mayor of Upper Lighthorne, with Scott Goodman as deputy mayor.
Coun Robinson said: “This is a proud moment for Upper Lighthorne. Our transition to town status is a testament to the energy, resilience, and creativity of our residents. Together, we are building a town that honours its roots while embracing the opportunities ahead.”
“This change reflects the remarkable strides the community has made in recent years, and is a pivotal moment in our community’s history, giving us renewed commitment to shaping our shared future with purpose and unity.
“As we embrace the new chapter, we honour the heritage and commitment that has guided us while looking forward to the possibilities ahead, strengthening services, enhancing local identity, building relationships with other villages and towns and making sure this community continues to thrive for generations to come.
“The town councillors bring together a broad range of skills and professional experience, united by a shared commitment to public service and the wellbeing of the community.
“Drawing on backgrounds in community engagement, local governance, and partnership working, they are focused on listening to residents, representing local priorities, and delivering practical, collaborative solutions for the town.
“Together, they are committed to transparency, accountability, and positive local change.”
