A HOMELESS charity is urging residents to help rough sleepers stay safe in the sun.
Helping Hands chief executive Lianne Kirkman said two homeless people had visited the Leamington shop and drop-in centre in the last two weeks to have severe sunburns treated.
One of them had blisters forming on his arms after falling asleep in the sun and was in ‘desperate’ need of water.
Lianne said: @With a nurse on site, we were able to dress and treat his sunburn and recommend appropriate follow up treatment but it would be good if this can be avoided for any of our other homeless service users.
“We recommend the public hand out sunscreen or water if they want to help anyone sat on our streets. People can get easily dehydrated in this weather so fluids are so important too.
“People can donate it to the local services like Helping Hands and drop off to our shop at 12 Gloucester street and we can then hand it out in the day time or at our evening outreach or they can just go and give direct out on the streets.
“I’m sure they’d really appreciate it.”
The heatwave is expected to last another two weeks according to forecasters, with temperatures pushing 30 degrees.
