Invictus games medal winner inspiring pupils ahead of swimming competition

Leamington Editorial 24th Nov, 2018   0

AN INVICTUS games medal winner has been inspiring pupils at North Leamington School.

Dave Watson struck gold in the men’s discus and shot put, and silver in rowing events.

But he took time out of his busy training schedule to speak to pupils ahead of their Swimming Challenge which will take place at Southam Leisure Centre on Sunday (November 25).

The former guardsman lost both of his legs and his right arm after standing on an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan in 2010.

He received support through Fisher House Royal Centre for Defence Medicine which is based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, supporting injured veterans and families, allowing them to stay close while they recover. Since then he has become an ambassador for the charity.

The NLS Community Swim is being held in aid of Fisher House and will see students swim a combined distance of 33 miles – the equivalent of travelling from the school to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
