A VERY special advent calendar, aimed at counting down to Christmas whilst counting up the fundraising coffers, has been launched by Kenilworth Rotary Club.
The Kenilworth Advent Calendar was revealed at a launch event on Friday (June 30) and is the start of a brand new fundraising initiative for the rotary club in the town.
Kenilworth Mayor Samantha Cooke was on hand to help launch the calendar, along with key sponsors Emmerson Press, Abstract Design and LoudLocal, who will ensure the advent calendar and its supporting website will be ready on time.
The Kenilworth Advent Calendar, like all other advent calendars, has 24 little doors on its face, one for each day of Advent from December 1 to 24. What makes it different is that, behind each door, is a list of five exciting prizes which will be distributed to lucky winners.
Each calendar bears a unique number and, to find out if they’ve won a prize, the buyer simply checks the dedicated advent calendar website where winning numbers are displayed. These numbers will also be reported on press, radio, social media websites and displayed in Talisman Square.
Local businesses have shown huge support for the enterprise, contributing most of the prizes. And Kenilworth-based Abstract Design, Emmersons Press and LoudLocal Digital Marketing have donated their work so that almost all sales proceeds will go to Kenilworth charities.
Katie Evans, Abstract Design’s Accounts Director, said: “We’re happy to work with Kenilworth Rotary on the new advent fundraising initiative. It’s a fun way to raise money for local causes and, as a company, we’re pleased to be able to put something back into the community”.
While Malcolm Matthews, Kenilworth Rotary’s president, who is leading the project, added: “The support from local business has been truly remarkable. Almost everyone we’ve spoken to has been keen to help, from small independent shops to major businesses such as Emersons and Abstract Design, without whose help we couldn’t have produced the calendar. And I must thank LoudLocal for donating their expertise to create a dedicated website, www.kenilworthrotaryadventcalender.co.uk which underpins the whole project”.
