LABOUR supporters have voiced their delight at Matt Western’s win of the Warwick and Leamington seat in the General Election.
Mr Western overturned Conservative Chris White’s 6,000 majority to take the seat by 1,200 votes.
Mr Western, a Warwickshire county councillor, received 25, 227 votes; Mr White 24,021; Lib-Dem Nick Soloman 2,810; the Green’s Jonathan Chilvers 1,198, and UKIP’s Bob Dhillon 799.
And voters took to social media in their droves to congratulate the new MP.
Nick Symons said: “A fantastic turn around for the team, what a result, Labour showing so much more passion and listening to what the people want, they deserved this.”
Sam Garland said: “Finally an MP Warwick and Leamington deserve and need!! Well done Matt Western, MP for Warwick & Leamington. Definitely the man for the job.”
Zee Vandenberg posted on Facebook: “Thank you Leamington and Warwick. I can walk out of my house today knowing that my neighbours care and want a fairer more compassionate society. Well chuffed. Great work Matt Western.”
Ben Wesson said: “So proud of the Warwick and Leamington Labour family. We did it – we got Matt Western over the line!”
Ian James Griffiths added: “ A superb result – a great MP for the area and kudos to the organising team to do such a great campaign at short notice!”
Jamie Sweeney said: “Warwick & Leamington won by Labour, amazing stuff!! So, so pleased for Matt Western and the local party. Well deserved, a great bunch of people.”
Twitter user SweetCaroline posted on the site: “Congratulations and well done. Polling station was very busy…. many young voters.”
And south Leamington councillor Barbara Weed said: “Tears of joy as my friend Matt Western is now my MP. Great news for Warwick & Leamington.”
Matt Western was quick to thank outgoing Conservative MP Chris White for the work he has done for the district.
Speaking after his win Mr Western said: “I want to say commiserations to Chris, he has done a very good job as the MP representing us for the past seven years now. Thank you for a good contest and being a decent person.”
And twitter users have thanked Mr White for his service.
Ally McP said: “Thanks for all your hard work over the last few years. You’ll be sorely missed round these parts.”
Mark Simmons said: “While I disagreed with much of Mrs May’s vision for Britain, I’m sorry to see Leamington lose its very able constituency MP Chris White.
Michael Vallance said: “Huge commiserations to Chris White. A hard working community MP who has done a great deal for Warwick & Leamington.”
Charity Helping Hands thanked Mr White for his help.
