THE FUTURE of a law firm founded in Leamington nearly two centuries ago has been secured.
Administrators have successfully completed the sale of Wright Hassall to fellow UK law firm HCR Legal LLP, which has 11 offices across England and Wales.
The sale has protected over 100 jobs at Wright Hassall, which has been based in Leamington since its foundation in 1846, although the firm’s current name originated in 1875, when Edward Wright took James Wright Hassall into partnership – forming Wright and Hassall. Over the years, it was shortened to Wright Hassall.
Hilary Pascoe, of administrators Leonard Curtis, said: “We have seen an increase in law firm insolvencies over the last few months which demonstrates the issues being faced in the sector. Rising costs and difficulties with recruitment are just two of many areas of concern.
“A very positive outcome has been achieved for the employees and clients of Wright Hassall with the successful sale to HCR Legal LLP.”
HCR Law is an award-winning firm with 1,060 staff and partners with a turnover of £112million.
Wright Hassall’s more recent history saw it based in Dormer Place, and from 1970 at offices in Clarendon Place for 37 years, before moving to its current modern offices off of Europa Way in 2007.
The Wright Hassall name – which down the years many have assumed was a gimmick, and which was a regular topic of correspondence in national newspapers – is set to live on with the Leamington office to be known as HCR Wright Hassall.
