Leamington's community heroes receive Mayor's Awards

COMMUNITY heroes in Leamington have received Mayor’s Awards.

The awards recognised dedicated volunteers and organisations for their outstanding and selfless services to the community.

And the handing out of the awards marked one of Coun Nick Wilkins’ last duties as Leamington Mayor.

He said: “These unsung heroes who serve our local community are inspirational people who are so deserving and need to be recognised for all their hard work, who gave their time and energies, in a wide variety of ways. It gives me great pleasure to recognise their achievements with this Mayoral Award.”

Individual award winners included Kath Bannister for the valuable work she does as a community leader. The mayor wanted to pay tribute to her years of volunteer work in the community such as helping to set up the Bounce Back breast cancer support group for breast cancer patients across south Warwickshire.

Delia Button was awarded for her longstanding contribution to community life with her volunteering and charity work. Despite suffering from a debilitating illness since she was a teenager, Delia has raised thousands of pounds for charities over the years.

Paul Hampton was awarded for his dedication and hard work in helping raise much needed funds for multiple sclerosis.

An award went to Babs Kandola, the driving force behind Leamington Community Boxing Club.

Alex Pearson was award for going “above and beyond” in her fundraising efforts for local charities and community organisations.

And award winners in the organisation category included Brunswick Hub for supporting the community with food banks, The Healthy Living Centre for its health projects and activities in the Old Town area of Leamington, the Polish Centre for its vital work in support of Ukraine and Young People First for supporting disadvantaged young people to help them to succeed in life.
