Local employment to receive a boost thanks to new Aldi store in Southam

LOCAL employment is set for a welcome boost thanks to a new Aldi store opening in Southam.

The store will be built on land adjacent to Galanos House on the A423 after being given approved by Stratford District Council and is scheduled to open its doors to the public in mid-2024.

The store will create around 40 to 50 new jobs for local people as well as provide further employment opportunities during construction and through the supply chain.

Work, costing some £5million, will start imminently once a construction programme has been agreed with SDC.

Robin Williams, Aldi Property Director, said: “This is fantastic news for the people of Southam. Aldi has wanted to bring a store to Southam as far back as 2020. With no discount retailer currently in the town, residents are currently paying a premium for their shopping or having to travel further afield to our nearby stores to get the low-cost, high-quality produce they want.

“This was one of the most popular schemes we’ve had and we know how much the Southam community want an Aldi. We are eager to get on site and start building as soon as possible with aspirations for a mid-2024 opening. Thank you to all of the community who supported our plans.”

Plans were first announced for an Aldi in Southam in September 2020. A public consultation found that 93 per cent of respondents supported the plans.
