Long time park resident removed

A LONG-TIME resident of Leamington’s Jephson Gardens is no more.

Warwick District Council was this week forced to remove the Holm Oak tree which stood near the lake.

Attempts were made to save the tree but it did not responded to pollarding works carried out to try and prolong its life.

With basal decay evident in the tree, its structural integrity was affected and given its prominent position in the the tree had to be removed to ensure the safety of park-goers.

WDC neighbourhood spokesman Coun Will Roberts said: “It’s sad to have to remove any tree from our parks and open spaces, but the safety of the public must come first.

“I am grateful to the Green Spaces team andcolleagues from Warwickshire County Council for the work they do to preserve and maintain our wonderful collection of mature trees, which are such an asset to our town.”

The seating around the tree will remain and a replacement tree planted nearby.
