Mayoral awards handed out to dedicated volunteers in Leamington

DEDICATED volunteers and organisations across Leamington have been recognised with Mayoral Awards.

The awards are handed out to those who have demonstrated outstanding and selfless services to the community.

Among the award winners were Kate Beckingsale for her vital mentoring and volunteering at Flourish, offering support to young girls.

Kate sees girls weekly to deliver the charity’s mentoring programme.

Colin Robertson was awarded for his substantial community fundraising.

He has been a fundraiser and community supporter since the 1960s for the Round Table, the 41 Club, and Rotary Club Leamington.

Warwickshire Vision Support was awarded for its extensive work for the visually impaired in Leamington.

WVS provide support and information to the visually impaired with a programme of events including equipment to promote independent living with sight loss.

An award was also presented to Welcome Here for its support to asylum seekers and refugees to resettle after arriving with next to nothing.

Formed in 2017 it has supported nine Syrian families, assisted 20 Afghan families, plus asylum seekers. The team of six volunteers has grown to 21. The charity continues to be completely volunteer run.

Mayor Coun Alan Boad said: “These unsung heroes who serve our local community are inspirational people who are so deserving and need to be recognised for all their hard work, who gave their time and energies, in a wide variety of ways. It gives me great pleasure to recognise their achievements with this Mayoral Award.”
