McDonalds wins 24/7 opening bid in Warwick

MCDONALDS in Warwick has been given permission to open 24 hours a day – despite objections.

Warwick District Council planning committee granted the change in operating hours for 12 months for the eat in and drive thru fast food restaurant located in the car park next to the Tesco superstore off Emscote Road.

Permission for the change in hours, which had been 6am to 11pm, was granted subject to an additional condition requiring sufficient lighting within the area during operation.

Warwick Town Council objected, as did a number of residents, whose concerns included fears of antisocial behaviour, noise, the increase in vehicles overnight and pollution.

But WDC Environmental Health department offered no objection, subject to a noise

and antisocial behaviour management plan.

This would include CCTV footage used to provide evidence of culprits who regularly cause antisocial behaviour, together with records made of registration plates and signs displayed asking customers to keep noise to a minimum and to leave quietly.

Warwickshire Police also offered no objection, but stressed the CCTV and lighting in the car park should be fully functioning and serviced on a regular basis to deter crime.
