MP Manuela Perteghella is calling for urgent action to address Stratford’s roadwork chaos.
She has written to Warwickshire County Council asking for a meeting as soon as possible to tackle the severe disruption caused by ongoing roadworks throughout the town.
Multiple key routes, including Birmingham Road, Masons Avenue, Alcester Road, Banbury Road, Shipston Road, and Evesham Road, are experiencing significant delays and congestion, creating daily frustration for residents, commuters, and local businesses.
Dr Perteghella claims that the impact has been particularly tough on parents and guardians, with many schoolchildren facing delays in getting to school. She emphasized that while essential roadworks are necessary, the current lack of coordination between various projects is exacerbating the issue and leading to near-constant gridlock in the town.
She continued: “Stratford deserves better than this chaos. The disruption is affecting everyone – from families trying to get their kids to school to visitors supporting our local economy. We need to find a way to get our roads flowing again while ensuring necessary works can proceed.”
District councillor for Stratford Avenue Coun Lorraine Grocott added: “This isn’t just about roads – it’s about quality of life for Stratford residents and supporting the vitality of our town, it is so good to have an MP committed to finding a solution that balances the need for essential works with the wellbeing of our community.”
In a letter to WCC, Dr Dr Perteghella has requested a meeting involving the council’s highways department, utility companies, and local county councillors to discuss solutions.
The goal is to explore ways to reduce the ongoing disruption, streamline traffic management, and ease the burden on the community.
Ward councillor for Stratford North, Coun Tim Sinclair responded on behalf of WCC saying he was always happy to meet Dr Perteghella about any issue and understood that as MP she has a role to play in holding errant utility companies, which are often the cause for unnecessary delays in our town, to account.
He added that he would be writing to her office to set up the meeting she has suggested so they could together lobby utility companies to behave in a more considerate manner to residents, with the suggestion that stiffer penalties be put in place for them to complete their work in a timely manner.
