MP MATT Western, is celebrating 20 years living in the Warwick and Leamington constituency.
The MP first moved into the constituency in spring 2004 and says he never dreamed that he “would have the honour of representing our communities” and what he calls home.
In his two decades here, Matt worked in the local car industry and served as a councillor on Warwickshire County Council from 2013 before being elected as the MP for Warwick and Leamington in the 2017 snap general election.
In his time as a councillor, the now MP volunteered as a trustee at several local organisations and charities including the SYDNI Centre, Canalside CSA and as a school governor.
Mr Western regularly raises the work of local organisations and the contributions they make to Warwick, Leamington, Whitnash and the surrounding villages. Since 2021, he has organised yearly ‘MP Awards’ where he highlights the work of individuals, organisations and businesses who often go unrecognised.
He said: “When I first moved here in 2004, I knew I had made the right decision in making it my home and I am even more convinced of this two decades later.
“Every day I am reminded of why it is such a brilliant place to live and through incredibly hard times, our communities show up for each other, whether that was through the pandemic or just through small actions each day looking out for one another.
“I never imagined I would have the honour of representing our towns and villages in Parliament when I made the move in 2004 but 13 years later, I was elected by the good people of Warwick and Leamington.
“To represent the place you’ve called home for so long is really special. To take the issues you’ve spoken about with neighbours and your community over so many years to Parliament is a privilege and one I will never tire of.
“It has been an honour to call Warwick and Leamington my home for 20 years and I’ll be proud to continue doing so for many more years.”
