MP Matt Western takes the fly issues plaguing residents to parliament

MP MATT Western has taken the fly issues plaguing residents back to parliament, saying he will not stop fighting until it is resolved

The MP for Warwick and Leamington, has called on the government to step in and support residents and him in their campaign against the ongoing fly and odour problem that is affecting parts of Warwick Gates, Heathcote and Whitnash.

He asked his colleagues in parliament to “imagine being in your own home and unable to eat with your family, unable to leave food for even a minute without your kitchen being swarmed by flies, and unable to sleep in your own bed without flies landing on your face”.

He was referring to the situation which he says is the reality for hundreds of families in one part of his constituency.

Many residents of Warwick Gates, Heathcote and Whitnash have long complained of an increase in flies and foul odour which they believe to be originating from the Berry Polymers site off the Tachbrook Road.

Mr Western shared with residents earlier this month that he had secured an adjournment debate on the issue. An adjournment debate is an opportunity for an individual backbench MP to raise an issue and receive a response from the relevant minister.

The MP asked residents to share anonymised personal experiences of the flies and odour issues which he could share in parliament. Within less than three days, he had received over 100 responses. Mr Western shared some of these responses in parliament.

Mr Western added: “Residents have suffered with flies and foul odours for over two years now and are facing another summer plagued by these issues. It is unacceptable.

“I have been very clear that I will continue to support them in this fight and taking the issue to parliament was the latest step in this.

“I will continue to make the case that residents cannot be expected to endure any further suffering due to these problems.”
