New council housing development Sayer Court opens in Leamington

A FLAGSHIP £13million council housing development has opened in Leamington.

Sayer Court consists of 76 one and two modern bedroom apartments for over 55s and five bungalows on the site of Fetherston Court and the former Sun in Splendour pub on Tachbrook Road.

The council, who developed the homes, say it has set the benchmark for future council housing.

District housing spokesman Coun Peter Phillips said: “These beautiful high quality, energy efficient, sustainable and most importantly affordable homes which have been developed by Warwick District Council have set the benchmark for the future of council housing in our district if not nationwide.”

And Chair of Warwick District Council Jane Knight was equally delighted with the development.

She said: “I’m delighted to see the successful completion of this project to replace the outdated Fetherston Court with such a wonderful modern development, which reflects Leamington’s Regency architecture.

“I hope the new Sayer Court residents are enjoying the light, warmth and comfort of their new homes.”

The development was named by competition-winning pupils from St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School who attended the opening.

They were joined by Kate Sayer, the daughter of former Leamington resident and Jaguar E-Type designer Malcolm Sayer, who opened the development.
