New energy fund to help Warwick district residents left without heating

A NEW energy fund has been set up in the district to support vulnerable residents who require emergency heating.

The Warwick Energy Fund, established by Warwick District Council and charity Act on Energy, offers emergency heating for private residents (owner-occupier or private tenant) who have a broken boiler or are without heating for other reasons.

If eligible, any affected resident will be sent up to three electric heaters to help heat their home.

To reduce energy bills, Act on Energy will also be able to provide the affected residents with ongoing support in relation to energy debt management, and access to any grants such as the Warm Homes Local Grant scheme, to retrofit their home and improve its energy efficiency.

WDC’s safer communities spokesperson Coun Jim Sinnott said: “Fuel poverty and cold homes can have a detrimental impact on a person’s mental and physical health.

“No one should have to live in a cold home, and we hope that with the creation of this new fund we will be able to support our most vulnerable residents with access to heating and support with the energy debt advice they need.”
