OLYMPIANS joined nearly 150 youngsters to make a splash at Leamington leisure centres.
Double Gold medalist Rebecca Adlington and bronze medalist Steve Parry were two of those on hand to celebrate the opening of Newbold Comyn and St Nicholas Park Leisure Centres on Saturday (October 7).
Youngsters enjoyed games including water polo along with synchronised and fast swimming.
Warwick District Council chairman coun Alan Boad and coun Michael Coker officially reopened the pools alongside Everyone Active regional director Jon Senior.
Coun Coker said: “The council and Everyone Active have both worked hard to get this first phase complete at both centres.
“It was all worthwhile – to see the young people enjoying themselves so much and watching the Olympic stars encouraging local youngsters to enjoy their swimming proved that the council was right to have invested substantial sums into these two facilities.”
The refurbishments are set to cost some £14.5m with the work completed next year.
The next phase of development will see a new 80 station gym at St Nicholas Park and changing facilities and a sports hall at Newbold Comyn.
Mr Senior from Everyone Active said: “It was an honour to welcome Rebecca Adlington and Steve Parry to join us in opening the first phase of the Newbold Comyn and St Nicholas Park Leisure Centres.
“We are very proud of the refurbished centres and the fantastic facilities that are now available to the local community. We look forward to encouraging even more people to become more active, more often when we open the final phase of the centres next spring.”
