WARWICKSHIRE Symphony Orchestra pay tribute to two much-loved former members with an evening of powerful orchestral works at All Saints’ Church in Leamington on March 14.
The concert will open with Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, performed as a tribute to percussionists Huw Thomas and Sebastian Farrall, both of who died last year. Huw dedicated 38 years to the WSO, while Seb played for five years.
The programme continues with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Overture on Russian Themes, followed by Brahms’ Violin Concerto in D Major, with the soloist, Callum Smart. The evening concludes with Beethoven’sSymphony No. 7 in A Major.
The orchestra also welcomes guest conductor Richard Jenkinson, a distinguished cellist, and conductor. Richard served as principal cellist with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and is a member of the acclaimed Dante String Quartet. He is currently musical director of both the British Police Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra of St John, Bromsgrove.
Chris Voss, chair of WSO and violinist said, ‘We are thrilled to be joined once again by Callum, who is a great friend to the orchestra and with whom we always love performing. It is also important that we mark the immense contribution made by Huw and Seb with the towering piece that is Fanfare for the Common Man.’
Tickets are £15, with half-price tickets available for students and children. Booking is available through www.wso.org.uk
