PADDLING pools in Leamington and Warwick could finally be about to re-open.
The pools in Victoria Park and St Nicholas Park have been closed during repair work for two years.
Both pools were closed in 2024 due to their end of operational life, and Warwick District Council took the decision to repair and improve them.
They were due to reopen in May 2025, but unavoidable delays and ongoing challenges, including some repairs only being possible during certain weather conditions and the availability of some sub-contractors, kept them closed.
WDC has said that while the work had taken longer than expected, it was critical the repairs not only fixed the problems but ensured the pools remained durable for their intended lifespan.
But the long delay in re-opening has brought criticism, with Warwick and Leamington MP Matt Western dubbing it the “paddling pool fiasco”.
Mr Western recently spoke to families at Victoria Park who were frustrated the pool had
been shut so long, particularly in the recent hot weather.
Mr Western said: “Our parks are great, local amenities but to have a key part of them unusable the last two years is simply not good enough. Residents are not asking much to be able to use a local amenity during this hot weather.”
A spokesperson for WDC said the target for opening the pools was by the end of the month, and there was even a chance both pools could re-open earlier.
