Plans to build 640 homes in Kenilworth

PLANS for 640 homes in Kenilworth have been submitted to Warwick District Council.

Catesby Estates has put forward the proposal for houses on land – equivalent to around 40 football pitches – between Glasshouse Lane and Crewe Lane.

The plans form part of a wider area allocated in the Warwick Local Plan for housing development to the east of Kenilworth.

And following public consultations last year, the developer has reduced the number of houses by 50 and said it would also provide a community hall and allotments.

Plans also include 40 per cent affordable housing, a new roundabout access and a new link road to Crewe Lane, play areas, footpaths and a cycle route.

The developer also says it will contribute funds to ‘education and healthcare improvements’ as well as to extended bus services, and ensure ancient woodland, including Glass House Spinney and the buried Roman villa, would be protected.

Spokesperson Ed Barrett said: “We have worked with Warwick District Council and country councils and Kenilworth Town Council to bring forward this well located and sustainable housing site.

“The need for additional new homes in the area is well recognised by the local community, and with the inclusion of 40 per cent affordable housing we will be giving those looking to take their first steps on the housing ladder a welcome boost.”

If plans go ahead, building work is hoped to begin late next year.
