Plans to build student flats near town centre approved

COUNCILLORS have approved plans to build student flats near Leamington town centre.

Owners of the Landlord Furniture shop in Trinity Street, off Kenilworth Road, applied to Warwick District Council to create three huge flats with a total of 23 bedrooms on the site.

It will see the two-storey coach house at the front of the property be renovated and converted and part of the warehouse behind it demolished.

The owners plan to move their business to larger premises in the town and say the Trinity Street building is no longer fit for purpose.

They decided to put forward proposals to turn it into student accommodation after struggling to find a buyer for the building.

The council has received a number of objections to their student housing plans, with residents concerned about parking and noise issues.

They are also worried about the ‘overbearing’ size of the property and lack of privacy.

But councllors approved the proposals at a recent planning meeting.

A report to councillors said the plans would help the authority meet the need for student housing while not having a major impact on neighbouring properties.
