Public soon to have their say on a new cycle path for Kenilworth

Leamington Editorial 15th Mar, 2023   0

THE PUBLIC will soon get to have their say on a proposed new shared cycle path in Kenilworth.

Members of Warwick District Council’s Cabinet agreed to detailed proposals being drawn up for the path that will connect the northern and southern ends of National Cycle Network route 52 within Abbey Fields, to allow residents to safely travel by bike to the new leisure centres, schools, and wider town centre.

The proposed path will enter Abbey Fields from the car park entrance on Bridge Street and go around the new leisure centre and up to Borrowell Lane. It will be sufficient width for both cyclists and other park users and will be designed for use by low-speed cyclists who are commuting through the town.

WDC’s climate change spokesman Coun Alan Rhead said: “Providing the infrastructure for our residents to safely commute by sustainable means is essential if we’re to encourage a healthy, active lifestyle and reduce traffic emissions.

“I look forward to seeing the more detailed proposals for this cycle route and to hearing the views of the residents of Kenilworth.”

Details of the public consultation will be published on the WDC’s website.
