A NEW Recovery House to help people leave drug and alcohol addiction behind them has opened in South Leamington.
Local charity New Chapters has been working for the last four years to open the project, which is an eight bed accommodation for people committed to beating their addiction.
Chair of trustees Susan Rutherford said: “Drug and alcohol addiction destroys lives, pulls apart families and damages our area. People can recover from addiction, but it takes really intensive support, but it’s worth it – for everyone. That’s why I’m delighted New Chapters has been able to open this eight bed accommodation. We’ve already seen a huge transformation with those residents that have been with us so far.”
New Chapters plan to have three properties, starting with this recently opened eight bed house, that will be intensively staffed. Residents from the Leamington and Warwick area will stay for between three and six months. They will then move onto supported stage two and three accommodation, where they will be supported into independent living as well as mentoring others and receiving training opportunities.
Manager Yvonne McKinnon explained: “We’ve seen too many people start to recover from addiction, but fail because the support is only given for a short time.
That shatters hopes of progress as well as wasting money. We know that when you put the right quality investment in for the long term it gets results. The vital work to repair family relationships we are doing also creates a positive ripple affect into the community.”
The New Chapters team need to raise £150 000 a year to run the recovery house and are also on the look out for volunteers.
Trustee Jonathan Chilvers added: “This is a local project to help people in our area. Please do make a donation large or small via the New Chapters website or social media and help people recover from addiction for good in Leamington and Warwick.”
