RESIDENTS are being urged to help catch the fly-tippers blighting the district by illegally dumping rubbish.
Warwick District Council has stepped up efforts to deal with the growing problem. A dedicated WDC fly-tipping collection and enforcement team began operating in June 2024. The team has already removed over 50 tonnes of fly-tipped waste, from both urban and rural areas, this year alone.
WDC has also agreed to pump in more cash to support fly-tipping collection and enforcement.
And now it wants residents, whose council tax pays for that support, to help bring the culprits to justice by reporting them.
WDC neighbourhood spokesman Will Roberts said: “We have recently introduced new fly-tipping signs which are being placed beside fly tips. These are being used to get the message across that fly tipping is not acceptable and how the public can help us identify fly tippers.
“Once fly-tips are reported the council’s dedicated fly-tipping team can step in to action, taking proactive action to prevent fly-tipping in the same location and investigating evidence found. This will then lead to increased enforcement with Fixed Penalty Notices served on businesses or residents.
“Most household items, including small electrical goods, are accepted as part of our kerbside waste and recycling collection service, and our bulky waste service is available if households wish to dispose of bigger items such as sofas and white goods.
“Anyone who is struggling with their household waste can contact the council, who can provide advice on household waste management and where applicable, for example with medical waste or multiple children in nappies, additional capacity can be provided.”
And dumping rubbish next to litter bins will also not be tolerated or accepted as an excuse.
Everything from sofas to suitcases have in recent months been discarded next to litter bins, but investigations by WDC have led to the issuing of several Fixed Penalty Notices to both businesses and residents.
The authority also warns that persistent dumping of waste next to public bins could result in the targeted bins being removed completely.
