South Warwickshire students receive their A-Level results 2024 - live blog

THE NERVOUS wait for exam results came to an end for students across south Warwickshire today as they collected their results.

While there were plenty of smiles among celebrating students, there were also a few tears from those who didn’t quite manage to get the grades they were hoping for.

But supportive staff were on hand to help all decide on their future path, be it in education or starting out on a career.

 




Arnold Lodge School, Leamington

Arnold Lodge School is celebrating the success of its A Level and BTEC pupils as they go on to pursue their educational journeys at the destinations of their choice.


Compared to target grades, pupils at ALS scored on average 1.5 grades higher, with a particularly impressive value added increase of 21 per cent in the A*/A bracket.

Among the individual success stories were Lucas who achieved highly in Business, Geography and History and goes on to study Geography at the University of Birmingham, Elysia who will be going to study Drama at University of Exeter, and Head Prefect Amelia, who was awarded a choral scholarship at Royal Holloway London.

Headteacher David Preston said: “We are so pleased for our pupils with an outstanding set of results at both A Level and BTEC.

“To see these pupils grow and succeed over their years at ALS, while keeping the school values of honesty, kindness and hard work as their anchor has been a privilege, I am tremendously proud of them and the success they have achieved is a wonderful reflection of their dedication to their studies.”

Aylesford School, Warwick

Students at Aylesford School are celebrating after receiving their A Level grades, with many students securing places at their chosen universities.

There have been some impressive individual performances including Hugo Walsh who successfully achieved 2 A*s in Maths and Physics, with an A in Further Maths, securing his place to study Physics and Astrophysics at the University of Manchester.

Molly Turner who gained an A* in Art and two further A grades to win a place to read Fine Art at the University of Bristol.

Sam Duns with an A* in Mathematics, an A in Physics and a B in Further Maths who will read Physics at the University of Warwick.

Lucy Bicknell, deputy sixth form student leader, who has successfully achieved her goal to study Sport and Exercise Science at Loughborough University, and Polly O’Sullivan who achieved an A* in History to achieve her dream of studying Spanish at the University of Oxford.

Headteacher Tim Hodgson said: “Our A level students have shown incredible resilience and determination. Their success is not only a reflection of their own hard work but also of the unwavering support from our dedicated staff and the wider school community.

“These results open the door to many exciting opportunities, and we are confident that our students are well-prepared to take the next steps in their education and careers. We are particularly proud of those who have overcome personal challenges to achieve their goals, embodying the school’s values of ambition, resilience, and kindness.”

King Edward VI School, Stratford

Students at King Edward VI School are celebrating another year of outstanding A Level results with 89.6 per cent of papers graded A* to B, the second highest in the school’s history.

Eighty-seven students obtained three A grades or better, including five students who obtained four A* grades – David Ansell, Jonathan Flaxman, Robbie Gemmill, Eddie Mitchell and Ellie Morris.

Headmaster Bennet Carr said: “It is immensely rewarding to see this year group achieve such exceptional outcomes. They have been wonderfully committed to all aspects of school life and have now capped their many successes in, for example the fields of sport, music and drama, with examination results of which they can be extremely proud.

“These achievements are further evidence of our belief that active involvement in the co-curricular programme enhances academic performance and that the skills and attributes they develop in doing so at KES will serve them well as they progress through the next stages of their lives. I would like to thank our exceptional staff and supportive parents who have, of course, been crucial to this success.”

Kineton High School

At Kineton High School there was a significant improvement in students’ A level results.

Nearly half of all grades were A*to B with an overall pass rate of 98 per cent.

Headteacher Ms Bridge said: “I am over the moon that all students have been able to access their next destination of choice. I’d like to pass on thanks to all the staff who taught the cohort and extend our gratitude to parents for their continued support.’

Mr Bonfield, head of sixth form, added ‘It’s been a genuine pleasure working with this year group. We are particularly pleased with our EPQ results as we have seen a significant increase in entries this year, with 64 per cent of all grades in this qualification being A*tp B.”

King’s High School, Warwick

At King’s High School around half of all grades were awarded at A* and A.

Headmaster Dr Stephen Burley said: ‘I am delighted to celebrate the achievements of our upper sixth students. They have done so well and worked incredibly hard. They are a fantastic cohort and it was a special moment to come together today to congratulate them. They all have very bright futures ahead of them.’

There was success across the range of subject areas. In Art, 92 per cent of students achieved A* or A grades, and in History 81 per cent of students achieved these top grades. In English Literature, Drama, DT, Art, Latin and Music, all students achieved A*to B grades. Students in Physics, RS, English Language, Psychology and Drama achieved more than 60 per cent A* and A grades.

Kingsley School, Warwick

Kingsley A Level students achieved a 100 per cent pass rate across all subjects, including 35 per cent achieving all A* and A grades, while 75 per cent studying vocational qualifications received grades Distinction-Distinction*.

Headteacher Dr Sarah Howling said: “Congratulations to our 2024 cohort on their outstanding examination results. We are incredibly proud of each and every student. Throughout their journey, they have demonstrated remarkable resilience, worked tirelessly, and carried themselves with grace and humour. Today, we see the fruits of their hard work, and we couldn’t be happier for them.

“As they now head off to university, embark on travels, or step into the world of work, we wish them the very best for their exciting futures. We know that their Kingsley education has prepared them well for whatever lies ahead, and we are confident that they will continue to achieve great things.”

Myton School, Warwick

A level students at Myton School achieved some outstanding results this year.

Headteacher Andy Perry said: “We’d like to congratulate all students on their success and wish them the very best in their next endeavors.

“While we congratulate all our students, a special mention must go to Luca Frigerio who achieved three A* and an A grade, Emma Dodd and Carys Roebuck who both achieved two A* and an A grade, and Bethan Harris and Isabel Slade who achieved two A*, an A and a B grade.”

North Leamington School

At North Leamington School there was an overall pass rate of 99 per cent, with 63 per cent of all grades A* to B.

Twenty four students gained all A* and A grades with both Peter Bush and Finn Robinson securing all A*’s.

An impressive 94 per cent of those who applied for higher education gained places at either their first or second choice universities.

Headteacher Mike Lowdell said, ‘I am delighted to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all our Year 13 students at North Leamington School who have once again achieved outstanding A Level and BTEC results. The hard work, commitment, and determination of our students have resulted in an excellent set of grades that place our school within the very top percentiles for performance nationally – a standard we have consistently maintained for many years.

“It’s truly inspiring to see our students taking the next steps in their academic journeys at some of the top universities in the country. We are proud to see them spread across the UK, with destinations including Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Durham, Edinburgh, Exeter, Liverpool, Loughborough, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Oxford and Warwick, to name just a few. The range of courses and universities reflects both the ambition and breadth of talent among our students.

“Today’s results are a moment for celebration, not only for the students themselves but also for their families and our entire school community. These outcomes are a product of sustained effort, collaboration and resilience. I would like to thank our dedicated staff who have supported our students every step of the way, ensuring they were well-prepared for their exams and for the future beyond school.”

Southam College

The hard work of students at Southam College has culminated in 32 per cent of A level grades coming in at A*/A, 59 per cent of grades at A* to B and for vocational courses – 78 per cent of grades at D*/D.

Particular congratulations go to:Ben Casey, Jonathan Ingram and Max Shirley who all achieved three A* grades and Tegan Southwick who received three D* grades.

Headteacher Miss Mason said: ‘I am incredibly proud of all of our students’ achievements this year, this cohort have managed a school building move in the middle of their Year 13 and have risen to every challenge they have faced with kindness and resilience.

“Their academic success mirrors their character and I wish them luck for the future. I would like to thank parents and carers for their support throughout the last two years and our committed staff team for the preparation and commitment given to all students.’

Warwick School

Warwick School celebrated its A Level results, with half of all grades being awarded at A*/A, 87 pupils earning places at prestigious Russell Group or other highly selective institutions, and seven Oxbridge offer holders securing their place.

Headmaster James Barker said: “Our upper sixth leavers can be enormously proud of their achievements which have earned them the opportunity to go forward and pursue their ambitions. Warwick School shares their pride and wishes them every success in the future.”

Warwickshire College Group

WCG is celebrating the outstanding achievements of its students across all six of its colleges for A Level, BTEC, City & Guilds Technical, Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) and T Level courses.

Students received results at Leamington College, Rugby College, Warwick Trident College, Moreton Morrell College, Pershore College and Evesham New College.

The 2023/24 academic year saw the first set of students complete T Level courses at the college group, with a 93.3 per cent pass rate, in courses including computing, construction and engineering.

Students have also completed a wide range of BTEC courses, including agriculture, Early Years, sport, Esports, animal management, equine management, business and many more.

The college group has marked 100 per cent completion rate for Level 3 City and Guilds qualifications in floristry, delivered from Moreton Morrell College.

A Level courses delivered from Leamington College and Rugby College include a 100 per cent pass rate in subjects including criminology, law, psychology, business, and economics, with over 90 per cent pass rate for sociology and English literature.

Simon Philpott, assistant principal at WCG, said: “This year we have demonstrated strong performance across a wide range of qualifications at our colleges in Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

“Our students can now look forward to a bright future with these qualifications under their belt, whether that be pursuing higher education options or making an immediate contribution to the workforce.”
