The community enjoys a 'super' refugee week in Warwickshire

COMMUNITY as a superpower was the theme of this year’s Refugee Week in Warwickshire.

Running from June 16 to June 22, the week was a chance for people across the county to come together in recognition of the power of connection, support, and shared belonging.

From art exhibitions and storytelling projects to school activities and community meals, residents joined in to show that community is about people looking out for one another, no matter where they’re from.

A highlight of the week was a Community as a Superpower celebration event at the Old Shire Hall on World Refugee Day itself, on Friday June 20.

Everyone was welcome to join in and celebrate the work of volunteers who have welcomed refugees into their homes and show solidarity with those who have sought sanctuary in Warwickshire.

Residents could drop in to explore cultural recipes, enjoy traditional Ukrainian music, or join Playbox Theatre’s storytelling session.

The artwork for ’My superpower for a kinder community’ art competition was also on display.
