The Myton Hospices roll a Monopoly double

THE MYTON Hospices has rolled a Monopoly double.

Two years ago Myton Hospices featured on an official Coventry version of the world’s most popular board game and now they have landed themselves a square on the forthcoming Monopoly: Royal Leamington Spa edition which hits the shops in October.

Earlier this year it was announced that the town is getting its very own official version of Monopoly.

And at the time, the public was invited to send in general nominations and suggestions for landmarks and organisations to feature in the game.

Later a separate specific poll took place for three Leamington charities to feature on the board.

The Myton Hospices is the first of these charities, or indeed any organisation, to be revealed as appearing in the game.

Ruth Freeman, CEO for The Myton Hospices, said: “We are delighted to be part of the new Leamington Monopoly game and want to thank everyone who nominated us.

“Our community is at the heart of our vital work, supporting people with life-limiting illnesses and their families, so to feature on this new local Monopoly edition is very fitting. We are honoured to be associated with Monopoly as it is such an iconic game.”

The charity provides care and support for people living with a wide range of life limiting illnesses, and their families, right from the moment they are diagnosed. This year alone they have to raise £10.5million of the £13.25million they need to continue providing their services free of charge.

Monopoly spokesperson Ella Gibbs added: “A huge congratulations to The Myton Hospices. The response from the public has been overwhelming and thank you to everyone who sent in nominations. The game will be out next month, when all the other Leamington landmarks featuring will be revealed, including the two other charities that will be featuring in the game.”

Over 30 Leamington landmarks will replace the likes of Mayfair and Park Lane from the classic London Monopoly original game.

Over the last 25 years there have been a number of new settings for the board game, from Dubai and Dublin to Palm Springs and Sydney.
