THE STAGE is set for Great Big Green Week at the RSC in Stratford.
The Royal Shakespeare Company is taking part in the UK’s largest celebration of community action on climate change and nature preservation from June 9 to June 16.
It will host a line-up of free special events in Stratford, including a brand-new environmental tour.
This free one-off tour of the RSC theatres focuses on the company’s environmental actions and initiatives. Attendees will learn about all aspects of the RSC’s work from improvements to the buildings, environmental considerations in the shop and cafe, to steps to reduce the environmental impact of what goes on and comes off stage.
Throughout the week the RSC will be serving up a selection of dishes with an environmental focus at the Rooftop Restaurant.
There will be a chance to learn about what is being done locally to create a low-carbon culture at a Carbon Literacy Training event.
A Craftivism Special will offer a morning of crafts with Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, and Stratford Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers will give a demonstration celebrating eco-conscious techniques.
A creative writing and water workshop, exploring Shakespeare’s seven ages of man as they relate to the seven ages of water, will also get the creative juices flowing.
There will also be a River Hope Photography and Film Installation and a sustainable theatre-making workshop with Elizabeth Freestone, diirector of the RSC’s 2023 production of The Tempest.
