Thermal imaging camera loan scheme up and rolling in Warwick district

RESIDENTS across the district can check the energy efficiency of their homes thanks to a free thermal imaging camera loan scheme.

Warwick District Council has provided seven thermal imaging cameras to six local community groups including parish and town councils for residents to borrow, with further community groups planned to take on more cameras in the coming months.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, up to a third of heat can be lost through poorly insulated walls and up to a quarter through the roof. Doors, windows and floors are also responsible for heat loss and can be responsible for cold draughts within a home.

A thermal imaging camera is a great way of identifying where improvements can be made.

WDC has worked with local charity Act on Energy to provide a guide on how to use the camera and interpret the images.

The scheme is free to private residents living within the area of a local community group operating the scheme.

WDC’s decarbonisation spokesperson Coun Lowell Williams said: “A key priority of the council’s corporate strategy is to proactively help residents improve the energy performance of their home, reducing bills, energy consumption and carbon emissions. This scheme, which is completely free to residents, is designed to help you understand where improvements to your home can be made that will lower your fuel bills and keep your home warmer in winter.”
