A THIRD man has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of footballer Cody Fisher.

Reegan Anderson was detained and questioned on Thursday (January 12) in connection with the death of the 23-year-old Stratford Town FC player who was attacked on the dancefloor of The Crane nightclub in Birmingham on Boxing Day.

Eighteen-year-old Anderson, from Erdington, has since been charged with murder and affray and was set to appear before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday (January 13).

Two men have already been charged with his murder, while a third has been released on bail while inquiries continue.

Kami Carpenter, 21, and Remy Gordon, 22, both from Birmingham, have been remanded in custody until March 17 when they will enter a plea. A trial is provisionally set to take place on July 3.

A postmortem report revealed Mr Fisher, a school sports coach, had died of a stab wound.

The Digbeth nightclub had its licence suspended following his death.

Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood, leading the investigation, said: “We know lots of people at The Crane were using their mobile phones to take pictures and video on the night.

“If anyone has images from the evening that shows what happened before, during or after the incident, we really need to see it. It could provide vital to our investigation.”

Tribute was paid to Mr Fisher at Stratford Town FC’s first match back following Mr Fisher’s death.

Prior to kick off against Kings Langley there was a minute’s silence and the retiring of Mr Fisher’s no. 23 shirt, followed by the halting of play for a minute’s applause in the 23rd minute of the match.

Youngsters from St Gregory’s School in Stratford, where Cody worked as a sports coach, formed a guard of honour for the players as they came out at the Arden Garages Stadium.

And more than 20,000 have to date also signed a petition aimed at making going out safer following Mr Fisher’s death.

The petition Cody’s Law seeks to make metal detectors and bleed kits a lawful requirement for clubs and event venues.
