Toe-tapping youngster beats competition to win place at ballet school

A TOE-tapping youngster has beat stiff competition to scoop a coveted place at a ballet school.

Ten-year-old Beattie Bell was one of some 900 dancers who auditioned for 15 available spaces at Elmhurst Ballet School in Birmingham.

And the talented youngster, who trained at The Nikki Jay Academy of Dance for the past three years, has been awarded a full-time place.

Nikki Shurvinton who runs the Whitnash and Offchurch-based academy said: “I knew she was special from the get go as she showed a rare determination I have not seen in many students in over 24 years running this school.

“She has worked so hard to get here and I am just over the moon, I couldn’t be more proud, as a teacher it’s moments like this that you strive for.”
