Tuning in at Warwick Folk Festival

THERE was music and dancing and so much more at Warwick Folk Festival.

The four day celebration of roots music has been drawing thousands of fans to the town for approaching half a century.

The weather may been somewhat overcast this year, but the sun popped out occasionally and the rain held off for the most part.

As in previous years, the programme offers too much for any one person to ‘do’ the whole festival, but whichever route festival-goers chose to take through the generous spread of events, there was entertainment at every turn.

The various musical stages played host to full full on gigs and intimate acoustic performances, and there were sing-arounds and jam sessions across the Castle Park sites wherever musicians seemed to meet.

Among this year’s headliners were Richard Thompson, one of the most influential voices in folk and rock, the dynamic Canadian band Le Vent Du Nord, acclaimed Yorkshire songstress Kate Rusby and and the equally vaunted songwriter/guitarist Martin Simpson.

And there was dancing, everything from morris to clog, both on site and in the streets of Warwick as various sides strutted their stuff.

The festival village offered festival-goers everything from real ales to international cuisines, togther with craft and clothing stalls.
