FAMILIES will receive help from a new volunteer scheme being launched by South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT).
The Home Support Volunteers will link with the trust’s Children’s Community Nursing Team, providing support for local families in their own homes.
The Children’s Community Nursing team work with families across the whole of Warwickshire and want to introduce more volunteer roles to help families who need additional support.
Volunteers already play a vital role within the trust’s hospitals but Home Support Volunteers expands the voluntary service into the community for the first time.
David Widdas, Consultant Nurse within the Children’s Community Nursing team explained why volunteering was important.
He told The Observer: “We work with lots of families who care for children and young people with very complicated health conditions.
“An extra pair of hands will provide a lot of a support and it is also very rewarding for those who take part. The volunteers can help with all kinds of tasks from gardening and ironing to organising events that enable families to get together. It’s amazing how much relief a family can experience by having someone there to help.”
Volunteers need to be over 18 with a few hours a week to spare. Email [email protected] for further details, or an open day is being held on January 6 at Northgate Methodist Church in Barrack Street, Warwick, from 6pm to 8pm.
