Warwickshire gritters ready - if winter ever arrives

Leamington Editorial 24th Dec, 2015 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

A FLEET of sure-wheeled gritters is ready to take on ice or snow in Warwickshire – should winter ever arrive.

Warwickshire County Council has 29 gritting vehicles and seven spares based at county highways depots across the county.

They have access to over 14,000 tonnes of salt which is monitored to ensure gritting can take place throughout the winter.

Primary routes – over 1,500km of them – are a priority for the gritting teams, but other routes can also be cleared as resources become available.

Council transport spokesman Coun Peter Butlin said the highways team and fleet of gritters was all prepared to keep the county moving if the snow comes, but warned drivers to stay vigilant on icy and hazardous roads.

Follow the council’s Gritter Twitter page at www.twitter.com/warksgritting for up to date information on gritting operations throughout the county.
