A STRATEGY to tackle violence, abuse and intimidation against women and girls has been launched by Warwickshire Police.
The development of the strategy started in the wake of the murder of Sarah Everard in London.
It is intended to ensure that tackling the problem and rebuilding confidence in policing is a top priority for the force.
The strategy focuses on helping women and girls to feel safer in public, improving confidence in criminal justice, increasing reporting and recording of incidents, ensuring officers and police staff meet the highest standards of behaviour, and demonstrating what the force is doing to address issues of violence, abuse and intimidation of women to rebuild confidence in policing.
Det Ch Supt Suzanne Baker said: “Recent incidents, most notably the murder of Sarah Everard, really highlighted the significant issue around women’s safety and damaged confidence in policing.
“It has however provided a watershed moment in society’s determination to tackle violence, abuse and intimidation against women and girls and, it is important that as a police force we grasp this opportunity to deliver lasting positive change.
“We have identified these five key areas that will help ensure we address the concerns of women and girls, and ultimately increase confidence in policing.
“Everyone should feel safe in their community and have confidence in the service provided by their police force. The launch of this strategy comes with a commitment that we will work tirelessly to deliver this and I urge our communities to hold us to account for delivering this.”
