Warwickshire Symphony Orchestra warms up for winter concert

WARWICKSHIRE Symphony Orchestra is warming up for a winter-themed family concert.

It is being held at the Royal Spa Centre in Leamington on Sunday November 23 at 3pm and will bring together classical masterpieces and seasonal favourites.

From Vivaldi’s iconic Winter from The Four Seasons to Howard Blake’s Walking in the Air from The Snowman, the repertoire spans centuries and styles united by the theme of winter.

The concert features popular film scores including Let it Go from Disney’s Frozen, music from The Polar Express, and selections from How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Classical highlights include Prokofiev’s spirited Troika, Waldteufel’s elegant Skaters’ Waltz, and Glazunov’s Winter from The Seasons Ballet.

The orchestra will also be showcasing the works of local composer Robert Ramskill, who has a long association with the ensemble. The programme includes three of his pieces – Ice, Snow and Mountains, his arrangement of Let it Go, and his interpretation of Winter Wonderland.

The concert marks the debut performance of conductor Tommaso Nista with Warwickshire Symphony Orchestra.

Chris Voss, chair of WSO and violinist said: “Our family concerts are always great fun and this one has something to delight all the family from children to grandparents.’
