WORK is well underway on the new Kenilworth railway station.
The £12million project will see an hour shuttle service between Coventry and Leamington, although calls have been made for a a 30-minute frequency service for the full potential of the new station to be achieved.
Recent photographs taken at the station site show pipes are currently being installed around the footbridge so it does not need to be dismantled.
The Department for Transport’s New Station Fund is contributing £5million to the total cost of the Kenilworth Station project, with the remainder of the funding being provided by local transport bodies and Warwickshire County Council.
The new station – replacing the town’s former station which closed in 1965 – will also include a ticket office, 90-space car park and cycle parking.
The station was originally set to open in August, but delays mainly due to signalling issues, have seen it put back to December.
