Work on Leamington to Kenilworth cycle and walking route enters new phase

Leamington Editorial 24th Aug, 2023   0

WORK on another phase of a new cycle route to link Leamington and Kenlworth will start next month.

The Kenilworth Road Cycle Route is the first section of the £4.7million K2L project to provide a 5km walking and cycling route connecting the two towns.

The second phase will involve completion of the cycle track along Kenilworth Road between Binswood Avenue and Northumberland Road and creation of a signed cycle route along Beauchamp Road and Binswood Avenue.

Crossing facilities for cyclists and pedestrians will also be installed at Cloister Crofts, Lillington Avenue and Clarendon Avenue.

Following recent consultation on additional parking restrictions, double yellow lines will be introduced along Kenilworth Road between Binswood Avenue and Gables House, just north of Northumberland Road.

Warwickshire County Council highway chiefs say this should improve visibility for access to properties, help with the flow of traffic and keep the pavements and cycle track clear of obstructions.

Motorists are being warned they could face delays when work gets underway on September 4.

Local residents will continue to receive regular scheme updates and these will be available online at www.warwickshire.gov.uk/cycling/cycle-route-schemes-consultation/6

WCC transport spokesman Jan Matecki, said: ”I am pleased to see that works are continuing on this important cycle route, enabling the completion of connections to Leamington town centre and local schools. The K2L Kenilworth to Leamington cycle route is a key part of WCC’s ambitions to provide safe and attractive options for local journeys by bike.

“This supports our strategic priorities for providing better infrastructure, supporting healthy communities, mitigating climate change and meeting net zero commitments.”

The project is set to be completed within the next three years.
