AVID knitters got their needles clacking to raise awareness of social activities run by a local community centre in Warwick.
Talented ladies from The Gap community centre’s Knit ‘n’ Natter group teamed up to yarn bomb the community centre’s noticeboard at the Chantry shops opposite Morrisons.
Based on a summer garden theme, the idea was to do something community spirited and draw attention to the noticeboard. It is hoped it will encourage locals to browse What’s On and visit their local community centre, two minutes’ walk away across the Green.
The knitted frame and bunting took many hours of knitting, nattering, tea, coffee, and cake to make during the Thursday morning coffee morning at The Gap, which runs weekly between 10am and 12noon, and is open to new members.
The knitted and crocheted decoration includes seven toadstools, three birds, a bee, four ladybirds, a snail, three mice, 11 butterflies, 15 hearts, 11 strawberries, and dozens of flowers.
The Gap’s director Marcos Campos said: “We’re very proud of these ladies from the Knit ‘n’ Natter group for the magnificent yarn bombing of our community noticeboard, which looks amazing. Please do check it out in all its glory. It’s a fabulous example of community togetherness and we hope it’ll bring lots of cheer and a few more people, who have not yet visited The Gap community centre, through our door.
“Surprisingly, because we are tucked away at 39 Oakwood Grove, many people still don’t know we exist, so we’re hoping the knitting will help change that.”
