Youngsters get VIP tour of new Warwick primary school

FUTURE pupils got a VIP tour of a new Warwick primary school in the making.

The youngsters donned their hard hats and hi-vis jackers for a special tour of the new Myton Gardens Primary School site, as construction continues ahead of the September opening.

The visit marks a key moment for the local children – many of whom will transition to the new school once it opens.

The new two-form entry primary school, located off Fusiliers Way, will provide much-needed school places for the growing local community. The school is being delivered by Warwickshire County Council in partnership with Stowe Valley Multi-Academy Trust and Speller Metcalfe.

Since the topping-out ceremony held earlier this spring, the scheme has progressed rapidly, with key areas such as the new full-size sports pitches and MUGA (multi-use games area) almost complete, alongside the nursery.

Fit-out of the timber frame building is also ongoing, and external landscaping will continue into autumn to align with the seasonal planting window.

WCC’s property spokesperson Coun Stephen Shaw said: “Funding of £18.8 million has been provided by the local authority for this new school as part of our work to meet sufficiency of education placements across the county.

“It’s an exciting project and the new school will have some fantastic features and facilities for future pupils to support academic and extracurricular activities. I’m really pleased to hear that the local children enjoyed their visit to the site and I’m sure they will enjoy learning at the new school when it opens next year.”

The new facility includes 15 classrooms, a nursery, a library, dance and music room, assembly hall, food science room and dedicated SEND spaces.

Sarah Sheepy, executive head of Myton Gardens Primary School, added: “It was incredibly exciting and emotional to take the children to their new school. They loved seeing their new environment and were particularly excited to see the diggers. It was the first time that children have been in the building that is going to be home to hundreds of children for years to come.”
