ATHLETICS - Striders out in force around the world

SPA Striders athletes were out in force around the world last weekend as club members travelled to United Arab Emirates, Italy and France.

Starting in UAE, Kevin Baskerville raced in the Yas Island St Patrick’s Day 10k in Abu Dhabi  and finished second in his age category in a time of 55 minutes 49 seconds.

And fellow Strider Andy Heath was in Italy, near Venice, to compete in the European Duathlon Championships for Great Britain and finished the sprint distance in 1 hour 31 mins 18 secs.

Also in Italy, Naomi Paterson kicked off the Spring marathon season in Rome and produced an amazing run on her marathon debut to finish in 3 hrs 39 mins 49 secs.

Striders athlete Nigel Fox ran the Lille 10k in France in a time of 52 mins 15 secs having arrived at the start line with just two minutes to spare following a bus diversion.

Closer to home, Martin Clark took part in the muddy Centurion Running Hundred Hills 50k in the Chilterns and finished in 6 hrs 32 mins 29 secs.

And Rosie Scares competed in the Cannock Chase half marathon as she finished in 2 hrs 24 mins 13 secs whilst Lauren Turner took on her second 20-mile race in as many weeks in the multi-terrain Reading 20 and just missed out on a top-10 finish in 2 hrs 58 mins 36 secs.

Striders athlete Sandra Stokes travelled to Weymouth for a half marathon and finished in 1 hr 55 mins 32 secs to place second in her age category.

In Staffordshire, Daniel Fleming took part in the Burntwood Aquathlon, which comprised of a swim and then a run, and completed the course in 32 mins 58 secs.

Lastly, James Bryant, Jen Goode and Mary Whittaker all raced in the Tempo Spring Duathlon at Gaydon as Bryant finished in 2 hrs 3 mins 31 secs, Goode in 2 hrs 45 mins 42 secs and Whittaker in 2 hrs 52 mins 35 secs.
