Awards of plenty at Old Leamingtonians Ladies' awards night

RUGBY: OLD Leamingtonians Ladies celebrated their 2016/17 season in style with an awards night following ten wins out of 12.

The team conceded just 44 points this year, making them winners of NC Midlands 1.

In addition to their league success, a total of nine players from OLs were also selected to represent Warwickshire in the ladies county squad.

Philippa Rawbone was selected as captain of Warwickshire and Kyra Gleeson was made vice captain.

And the achievements continued to flow for five of the OLs squad who walked away from the end of season dinner with awards.

Tash Blunt, who took up Rugby just 18 months ago, won the most improved player of the year.

At the start of her playing career she struggled to pass, catch and tackle. However her determination has seen her successfully score several essential tries throughout the season.

Philippa Rawbone was awarded back of the season due to her outstanding performance on the pitch every week and her versatility while playing.

Lorna Holloway scooped scooped the forward of the year award while OLs coaches selected team captain Jen Vermeulen as their coach’s player of the year.

Liz Kennedy was also among the winners as she bagged the players player of the year – the only award the whole team can have a vote on who wins.

On the back of a successful season, OLs ladies are now encouraging more girls to try out the sport of rugby.

On Wednesday (May 17) the club will host a ‘Give Rugby A Go’ session at 7.30pm.
