Back-to-back wins move Leamington FC closer to top spot

LEAMINGTON moved to within three points of Southern League Premier Division leaders Redditch United following a comfortable 3-0 victory at home to Dorchester Town.

Sam Austin scored the opening goal of the night on Tuesday evening after nine minutes. Ben Mackey did well to control a clearance before passing the ball on to Courtney Baker-Richardson who fed Austin to fire the home side in front.

Baker-Richardson came close two minutes later but his close range shot went over the bar and Mackey had two attempts at goal well saved by the visiting goalkeeper.

At the other end Smeeten fired narrowly wide and that proved to be Dorchester’s best chance of the half as Leamington took a narrow 1-0 lead into the break.

Seven minutes into the second half the hosts grabbed a second through Austin again after scoring with a finish from 15 yards out after some more good work by Baker-Richardson.

Austin was denied his hat-trick shortly before the hour mark after Dorchester goalkeeper Murphy produced a cracking save before Ben George put the result beyond doubt 17 minutes from time after beating Murphy to the ball and bundling it home from close range.

Tuesday’s result sees Leamington extend their winning streak to four consecutive matches and they are now eight games unbeaten in the league heading into Saturday’s reverse fixture against Dorchester Town.
