Big win for Warwick Thirds in Cotswold Hills League opener

Craig Gibbons 11th May, 2018

WARWICK Thirds enjoyed a winning start to their Cotswold Hills League Division Five campaign with a 120-run victory at Overbury Seconds.

After losing the toss, Warwick were asked to bat in tricky, swinging conditions and were quickly reduced to 11-3 after five overs.

However, a brilliant 108-run partnership between George Charczun (53) and Chris Moore (56) guided the visitors to 171-6 from their allotted 45 overs.

A combination of lush grass and massive outfield meant only four boundaries were scored in the whole innings.

Spencer Turner (3-26), Dave Westmoore (1-38) and Rob Hayden (1-27) were the pick of the Overbury bowlers.

After tea Warwick set about defending their total with the seam bowlers chipping away at the wickets at regular intervals.

Seamers Steve Webb (4-17), Charczun (1-11) and Prashantha Panja Narasimha (1-17) broke the back of the Overbury batting line-up before spinners Ash Spall (3-4) and Charlie Evans (1-0) finished off the innings as Overbury were skittled out for 51 in just 23 overs.

Warwick entertain Alvechurch Thirds on Saturday.
