FOOTBALL: LEAMINGTON progressed into the third round of the Birmingham Senior Cup thanks to a narrow 2-1 victory over Nuneaton.
Brakes boss Paul Holleran fielded a strong line-up for Tuesday’s fixture and it was the home side who took the lead with ten minutes on the clock when Jack Edwards headed home a Rob Thompson-Brown corner.
Somewhat against the run of play Leamington doubled their advantage after Callum Gittings had been brought down inside the area and Ryan Rowe made no mistake from the spot.
It remained 2-0 at the break but in the second half Holleran’s side were guilty of not taking their chances and let Nuneaton back in the game thanks to a David Moli goal.
The visitors had chances to force penalties but thankfully the hosts were able to hold out to make sure their name was in the hat for next round.
