Birthday week to remember for Spa Strider at Tamworth 10km

CHRIS WILSON made it a birthday week to remember as the Spa Strider completed the Tamworth 10km under ten minutes for the very first time.

A small army of Striders took on the Oxford Half withBen Parkinson clocking sub 90, (89:12).

Kate Gadsby was first Strider lady in (1:37:45).

Steve Hession took almost five minutes off his PB (1:28:54) and was followed by, Andrew Stone (1:38:12), Ben Cohen (1:39:04 – PB), Doug Rattray (1:43:56), Ruth Tennant (1:45:05), another PB for Louise Dwyer (1:48:51), Mark Hone (1:50:04) and Kathryn Houliston (2:29:21).




Mairi Walker (1.47) and Ian Allen (1.19) both got PBs at Cardiff Half Marathon, with Connel Williams (1:52:05).

At the Rugby 10, the last Warwickshire Road Race League event, the Striders out on this course were Rob Egan (1.09.49), Andrew Pope (1.17.48), Sue Cox (1.15.19), Carolyn Wilkinson (1.12.33), Rosie Banks (1.17.30), Hartwig Busch (1.12.13), Clive Parpworth (1.14.05), Simon Reiter (1.22.35), Helen Ayres (1.39.02)


Notable times went to Clare Hinton (1:10.05), Adam Notley with his sub 60 time of 59:39 and Claire Westrope with a course PB of 1:27.27.

At the Alcester 10k, Chris Liddle was first Strider home in seventh place with a PB (35:19), second in his age category.

Jo Fleming was also seventh place (42:48).

Alex Laing (46:03) was pipped by newcomer Luke Bennett (46:00).

Dawn Clark completed the Bournemouth Marathon (3:35:55), a lone Strider.

PBs were smashed at Chester Marathon.

The first Strider man in, Chris McKeown, ran a fantastic PB (2:47:28) putting him in 74th place.

Ladies captain Emma Bish clocked a time of (4:07:10).

Simon Parsons celebrated his PB (3:09:37) followed by Mike Pugh (3:15:09 – PB), Andy Roach (3:39:37), Matt Leydon (3:40:55), Kevin Baskerville (4:07:10) and Peter Schofield (4:10:32).

Ultra woman Mel Venables ran the Downslink 38miles ultra and came home as second lady and 13th overall in a time of 5:37:29.

And if running wasn’t enough Sandra Stokes got a PB of 1:18:56 at the Warwickshire Sprint Triathlon in Stratford.

She was joined by debutante Laura Peake.
