ROYAL Leamington Spa ABC fighter James Rigby made a winning return to the ring after three years away from the sport.

Rigby made his comeback at 67kg against Southend-on-Sea ABC fighter Riley Hallet in Maldon, Essex.

And the Leamington fighter showed signs of ring rust in the first and second rounds before eventually finding his groove.

Rigby sent his opponent crashing to the canvas in the third and final round with a right hook-left hook combination as he made a winning return to the sport.

On the same show, Leamington fighter Ben Williams faced Southend’s James Rutter at 52kg.

Williams took part in his second bout in as many weeks and took the first round but began to show signs of fatigue in the second.

The Leamington boxer threw several flurries and combinations in the final round but came up short in a split decision defeat.

Teammate Jordan Khera then followed in a 57kg bout against Southend boxer Ben Holmes.

Both fighters landed heavy shots with the doctor called in to check on damage to Khera’s cheek in the second round.

The doctor took the decision to end the contest early before Khera could sustain any further damage.

Elsewhere, Max Gramboudes suffered a split decision defeat in a scrappy contest in his first bout boxing Leamington.

Gramboudes fought in an 85kg contest on a Red Corner Gym home show against Team Seymour ABC fighter Joshua Suffolk.

The referee had to constantly separate the two boxers with the home fighter only recently transitioning from MMA.

Suffolk repeatedly held Gramboudes throughout the contest as the Seymour fighter took the win by split decision.
