Champion ski racer visits Kingsley School to open new workshop

SKIING: A SURPRISE visit to students at Kingsley School helped round off National Snowsports Week in memorable style.

World Cup ski racer Dave Ryding visited the Kingsley School Ski Squad to learn more about the school’s growing talent.

Dave spoke to the girls about his journey from Pendle to the World Cup podium and his preparation for next season, which includes the Olympics in PyeongChang.

The squad watched a replay of Dave’s famous run at Kitzbuhl, and he talked them through the excitement of achieving at different levels.

He took questions from the girls and officially opened Kingsley’s new ski workshop, which will allow members of the squad to be taught how to prepare skis prior to training and racing.

Dave said: “It’s great to come and see Kingsley Ski Squad and chat to their skiers.

“To see such a flourishing team gives me hope for the future of our winter sports and it is fantastic to see young people being given such a great opportunity to take up this wonderful sport.

“I hope Kingsley can lead as a great example to others as to what is possible and the opportunities available to schools.”
