THREE Spa Striders were tempted by the mid-week trail half-marathon ‘May the Fourth be with you’ and tested themselves on challenging terrain on what was a particularly warm day.

Taking on the Shropshire Hills from Church Stretton, Clare Hinton (2:22.21) was first Strider across the line and took the honour of second lady overall.

Hinton was followed by Caroline Whitehouse (2:29.57) and Sandra Stokes (2:31.56) who embraced the Star Wars theme in Princess Leia costume.

Also racing mid-week, Kate Gadsby and Bethan Gwynn competed at the Warwickshire county AA open graded meet, finishing the 3,000m course in 11.51 and 12.04 respectively.

At the Silverstone 10km, Chris McKeown (37.31) and Andrew Graham (41.08) made their return to short-course racing after their recent marathons.

Three Spa Striders completed the half-ironman Mallorca 70.3 in very tough conditions, including a strong swell in the sea swim and heavy rain on the technical bike course.

Other finishers were Charlotte Everard 5:38.37 (59th), Rich Sykes (241st) 5:58.05, Dawn Clark 6:08.11 (149th).
