BOXING: YOUNGSTER Morgan Ansell has her sights set on competing at the European Championships in 2018 after impressing the England coaching setup during to recent visits.
The 15-year-old, who trains at Leamington-based Clearys ABC, is being predicted to have a bright future in the ring as her boxing career goes from strength to strength.
Ansell travelled to Yorkshire on Saturday to take part in an England training camp in Leeds at Burmantofts ABC, while the following day she was unexpectedly under assessment again at the ELS in Sheffield by England coaches
“On arrival morgan was met by head England coach Amanda Coulson and without any prior was told it will be her assessment for the European Championships selections squad,” revealed head coach Edwin Cleary.
“Getting hit by this news without and prior notice would fluster most boxers, but not morgan.
“Morgan is a very focused young lady. With her mock exams, attending England squads, competing and training twice a day, Morgan is really a dedicated determined young lady and at 15 years of age really could go the whole way.
“Morgan is another one from this fabulous squad we are producing at Clearys that just wouldn’t be fazed by this and gave it her best.
“There were over 20 girls on assessment on Sunday showing the strength in depth now being produced in England. Most of the girls already with international experience were pushing for a second go at the Europeans.”
Elsewhere, Jake Finch heads to Rotherham this weekend where he will need to box for three days in a row to win the Youth Elite Championships.
Pipped against some very good opponents with only 12 contests to his name, Finch will be looking to impress the England selectors and is looking forward to competing against the best.
